LEMO standard cable assembliesStandard cable assemblies

LEMO UK manufacture a wide range of custom cable assemblies primarily based on the LEMO range of connectors, but with most other types of connector being assembled by our fully qualified technicians to customers’ requirements.

However, in many instances the technical requirements for an assembly are the identical for many customers. For this reason a range of standard cable assemblies has been created along with a meaningful part numbering system, where the specification can be agreed using a text description based on standard cable types (see cables section) with standard pin-outs (e.g. DEF-STAN61-12 for multiway cables).

Standard assemblies are provided with black strain relief and crimp contacts are used wherever feasible. Variants can be accommodated at customers’ requests, though the part numbering will be different and will be generated at the time of an order.

To specify, all you need to do is advise us of the following:

LEMO connector size/series and insert configuration – e.g.0B.304

LEMO model number(s) – e.g. FGG on both ends

The cable tip-to-tip length in metres – e.g. 25

The part number for the examples selected above is UKS.0B304FGGFGG025

LEMO UK have selected a range of standard electrical cables to match our connectors, and many of these are held in stock in readiness for use in the manufacture of cable assemblies to customer requirements. In addition some of these cables are regularly purchased by customers for other use.

The main groups of cable available are as follows and some examples of combinations with LEMO inserts are as shown in the specification tabs below. Multicore screened and unscreened Def-Stan 61-12 cables are commonly used in military, process control and data applications with a LEMO B series push pull multipole connector. Some examples of combinations with LEMO inserts are as shown below. There are many options and if you have need of other combinations all we need to know is the general part number of the LEMO connectors that you intend to use.

RG174-58-3 cableRG Coaxial cables used in data, voice and video applications with a LEMO 00 miniature 50 ohm connector.

UL standard cables with drain wire (Belden equivalent) used in instrumentation, data and audio applications with LEMO B or F series push pull compact lightweight connector.

High voltage specially designed cables with small outer diameters to match the range of LEMO HT connectors from 3kV to 30kV, particularly the LEMO Y Series and the High voltage cable0S.403 and 1S.408 connectors.

Fibre optic and hybrid cables

A range of Mil-tac and other fibre optic and hybrid cable is available and, when terminated to a LEMO K Series connector, provide highly reliable and durable interconnection systems.Standard multi-fibre singlemode or multimode cables, with aramid strength members and polyurethane outer jacket, are lightweight and extremely strong making them suitable for the most demanding outdoor applications.

A range of “T” adaptors has been designed for termination of these cables to LEMO K Series multi-fibre and mixed connectors which ensures a fully sealed and tough connection of the cable to the connector.Common LEMO part numbers – simplex and MIL-TAC fibre optic cables

The following cables with LEMO part numbers are a popular selection of tight buffered simplex and multifibre cables purchased or specified by customers for their assemblies—other part numbers available on request. The insert configurations stated are as used within the K Series range of IP68 connectors, as this usage is the most common. The same inserts can be offered within the B Series for indoor applications.Insert configuration options are shown for the two contact types—the 2.0mm F2 contact which is the most commonly available and the newer F7 1.25mm contact. The latter generally provides a better contact density. In some instances the number of contacts feasible are higher than for the number of fibres in the standard cable - other cables available on request.

HDTV cables from LEMO
Whilst there are a number of cables available on the market, the one cable that has proven extremely successful in Japan is the Furukawa 2SM-9.2-37.5 ARIB specification HD fibre hybrid cable, and since its introduction to the European market in 2006 it has become the recognised standard that broadcasters can trust.
As well as the ARIB grade, Furukawa also produce a commercial grade to meet the SMPTE standard as well as other grades such  as for studio floor, installation and multi-riser applications.
HDTV CableCables in broadcast need to be able to withstand considerable flexing and twisting, which is a challenge for fragile fibre optic cables. In response to such a requirement, Furukawa developed, after extensive research and testing, an HDTV camera cable featuring:

LEMO also offer a cable for Steadicam™ applications. This is a lightweight highly flexible cable which has no central steel strength member and smaller conductors in order to greatly improve flexibility.
