LEMO M-Series high strength aluminium connectors incorporate a triple-start fast-locking ratchet mechanism for use in high vibration and harsh environments. T Series - Watertight self-latching multipole connectors

The new LEMO T Series range of small diameter waterproof push-pull multipole connectors is based upon the widely established B Series incorporating the original LEMO push-pull latching connection technology but with the inclusion of an inner shell and additional sealing to provide protection against water ingress to IP68 level when mated. Hermetically sealed sockets also available for full sealing of enclosures when unmated.

Available with solder, crimp or print contacts, the T series keying system ensures correct connector alignment, with multiple key options to avoid cross-mating of multiple connections, and a separate earthing crown which offers full 360o EMC shielding.

The new T series untilises the proven high perfomance contact system and configurations from the highly popular LEMO B Series range, providing a very wide selection of options that can be made available quickly. It is backwardly compatible with the B Series, with the same socket panel hole diameter, which will be of considerable benefit to customers looking to upgrade existing designs as there is no need to change front panel dimensions, and upgraded cable plug assemblies will work with existing designs.

The T connector outer shell is available in standard LEMO matt chrome or black-chrome finish for use in defence systems such as aircraft communications, land vehicles, night vision equipment, simulation or personal battle equipment, as well as in the test and measurement market and other applications where the environmental conditions require ruggedised equipment.

3K Series - For HDTV Systems

The Global Standard for HDTV

 With over 20,000 of these connectors in use the LEMO 3K.93C connector system has proven itself in many different applications from studio and stadium installations to regular OB van use. The system has increasingly been used at all major Olympic events starting with Atlanta in 1996 and the Nagano winter Olympics in 1998, right through to the recent winter Olympics in Turin. In 1996 one of the earliest installations was at The Portland Trailblazers Arena, and other installations since include Madison Square Gardens, the Royal Opera House and most of the football arenas in Germany for the 2006 World cup.

Manufactured in stainless steel, the 3K.93C connector incorporates the highly reliable LEMO push-pull latching system and is suitable for up to 20,000 mating cycles and above. With proper termination the fibre contact is also suitable for this level of endurance. The use of fibre optics means that transmission can be made over much longer distances using digital signals from the camera to the base station and at a much higher level of definition. However, the performance of the interconnection is critical if this benefit is to be fully exploited.

The LEMO HDTV Camera connectors use the F2 type Fibre Optic contact. This contact employs ceramic technology in order to achieve optical performance of the highest standard. Simple and fast polishing ensures physical contact of the fibre endfaces, and the same basic contact is used in all of the connector models.

Rugged Cable for Demanding Environments

LEMO UK are offering cable supplied by Furukawa Electric - the market leader in Japan for hybrid camera cables for HDTV applications. These cables incorporate two singlemode fibres, two power conductors and two low voltage conductors in a very high quality construction, reinforced by a stainless steel strength member.

Within the UK, the 4M.650 is a BBC standard connector for studio and outside broadcast cameras. Similar in construction to the E series, 4M connectors have a high degree of protection rated at IP66 in accordance with standard IEC 529 for mated connectors (up to IP68 if assembled to special instructions). In addition, the outer shells are provided with a mechanical guide to prevent any connector rotation thereby avoiding any interruption of signals.

In addition to the 4M series for the UK market, LEMO also supply further ranges for use worldwide. The 3T series (ULC compatible), 4A (Kings compatible), REDEL F series (1051 A004 compatible) allow the user to utilise the high quality provided by LEMO within existing applications.

Redel SP Series: The new innovative connection from LEMO

redel sp 3259 h400 1LEMO, the originators of the push-pull connector latching system have developed a completely new and patented system in which the latching mechanism is internal to the plug, providing a number of significant benefits for users.
 
The Redel® connector has been widely employed in the medical market which is constantly seeking improvements in performance. Amongst these requirements are impact and crush resistance due to the working environment in hospitals, numbers of sterilisation cycles that equipment can withstand, and increasing contact density as innovations occur within the medical equipment and other sectors.
 
In seeking to meet these requirements a complete review of the whole Redel system led to the idea of inverting the latching system, so that the latches lock onto the central insert mounting rather than the bore of the receptacle.

The first immediate benefit of this concept is that the nose of the plug no longer has latching windows and is much stronger when using the same material and thickness. Although the existing connector can often withstand being inadvertently trodden upon, it is still vulnerable to heavier impacts potentially leading to the loss of use of important equipment at critical moments. Any improvements in strength reduces the risks of unintended damage to the connector and system as a whole.
 
In seeking to increase the contact density it was decided that the possible inclusion of a rectangular insert would achieve this objective. The use of a recangular insert also conveniently provides a large flat area on which to locate the inner latching groove, which would have otherwise been much tighter on a circular inner groove, thus helping to make the latching mechanism more robust.
 
As a result of having a rectangular insert the number of contacts feasible increases to a maximum of 22 contacts of 0.5mm nominal size in comparison with 14 contacts of 0.5mm for the existing Redel connector which is of the same size. Contact configurations that have been developed for this connector are 4, 6, 8, 10, 13, 16, 18 and 22-way, in solder and crimp options.
 
PPSU material is the standard material of construction for the SP Series as it gives improved sterilisation resistance in comparison to PSU, which is the standard material for the Redel P series.
 
The development of a completely new series has also provided an opportunity to build in improvements sought by customers. The SP Series has 3 keys as standard, which assists mating and particularly blind-mating of the connector. In addition there are 4 keyway options, 2 for standard gender (i.e. male pins for plugs and female sockets for receptacles) and 2 for reverse gender. However, the connector has been designed so that the inserts are completely interchangeable between plug and socket housings, which means that customers have the flexibility to reverse the gender to suit their purposes.

The outer shell of the SP series is ergonomically shaped to assist with connector mating and un-mating. Additionally the thumb grip location provides a highly visible guide for polarisation.
 
The linear pin arrangement of the contacts within the insulator along with the assembly process all assist speed of assembly of cable harnesses and sub-assemblies. The collet now clips onto the back of the insert assembly which further assists assembly by holding it together whilst locating into the connector.
 
Nevertheless the SP Series does retain some standard features from the original Redel 1P such as extensive resistance to sterilisation, a range of collets for different cable diameters, and 9 different colours of cable strain reliefs along with the necessary backnut and a range of coloured nuts to assist with connector identification. 
  
The high performing LEMO gold plated contact system naturally feature in the new Redel SP range and finally the SP series has the same panel cut-out dimensions as for the 1P series which will assist those customers that wish to upgrade their product without re-engineering housings.

Redel 1P Disposable Plug

LEMO have developed a new REDEL 1P high performance, disposable plug primarily for use in high volume medical applications with economy to justify disposal after a single-use. This offers an efficient and cost effective solution for catheter and other similar applications.

The plugs utilise a new simplified latching mechanism and have stamped contacts which are first soldered then snapped into the insulator allowing for easier termination. The removable snap-on back shell also allows for quick correction of assembly errors.
